Loki is the St Ayles Skiff built and owned by LBSC and is registered no17 by the Scottish Coastal Rowing Association. The St Ayles Skiff is a coastal rowing boat for 4 rowers and a cox.
She was constructed by sailing club members including Donald Buchanan, Paul Copestake, John Osborne, Sandy Osborne, Andy Reeve, and Robert White.
In 2011, escorted by a large team of club members, Loki was piped down from the Braes shed where she was constructed and officially launched by Jessie Osborne .
The Ullapool Coastal Rowing Club is also based at the clubhouse. It is more active in regattas and has organised and competitive teams. In the early years, the sailing club also attended many local regattas organised by the rowing club. We helped with and participated in the first World Championships in Ullapool in 2013, where both men and women enjoyed some success with bronze medals in various categories! Loki even ventured as far as Queensferry for one away regatta!
For the most part Loki is now used by club members as a way of keeping fit and enjoying the social benefits of the sport of coastal rowing. All members of the club are encouraged to make use of her and join the groups which are currently active.
The club also has a women’s group, a men’s group, and an occasional mixed group who all go out as often as can be arranged.
How to join a row
The women’s group use the Spond app to organise their rows. For more information on joining this group, please download the Spond app and contact the club for the registration code for joining the group. See www.spond.com for details about the app and how to download.
The men use mainly Whatsapp for organising so contact the club for information on that group.
